How do dermal fillers work?
Dermal fillers like RHA fillers and Artfiller are gel-like injectables made with hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural existing in our body, responsible to keep your skin plump & hydrated.
Injecting fillers on targeted areas adds volume under the skin to:
1)visibly smoothing the skin & reducing fine lines / wrinkles.
2)add volume to sunken contours of face (eg. cheek, temples, to improve facial symmetry).
3)to fill acne scars.
Are dermal filler injections safe?
The dermal fillers used in clinic are all premium products & FDA-approved and generally considered safe.
Side effects are injection-site related & mild. You may experience short term redness, bruising & swelling but this should subside after a few days following the treatment.
How long is the appointment for dermal filler? >
The appointments can last 30-60 minutes. You can return to your daily normal activities after the treatment, but adhering to post-treatment advice.
Post-filler advice?
*Drink plenty of water following dermal filler treatment as hyaluronic acid binds wit water – so as to enhance the effect of the filler.
*After filler injection, you may have some redness/ swelling/mild bruise which should settle in less than 7 days.
*Up to 24 hours – cold compress (only gentle light touch on site, no pressure must be applied) may be used immediately & up to 24 hours after the treatment to reduce swelling. Avoid touching area injected on the day. Do not sleep on front face or the side – ie only sleep on back, supported by boulder cushions if needed.
*After 24 hours post treatment – if any bruising seen, warm compress may be applied to the affected areas to speed up the resolution of bruising.
* To minimize risk of bruising : For 24 hrs pre-injection and for 24 hours post- treatment, avoid anti-inflammatory medication (Eg aspirin, ibuprofen, Naproxen,Diclofenac), supplements – such as VitaminE / Faxseed oil / Fish oil / St Johns wort / Mushroom based supplement, and avoid consuming any alcohol.
*Sunbathing & cold outdoor activity should be avoided, until any redness/swelling disappears.
*Avoid exercise / use of steam rooms & sauna / warm baths for 3-5 days.
How long do fillers last?
*Results do depend on type of dermal fillers used and area treated. Typically last 12-18 months. Dermal fillers are temporary & requires less commitment than permanent surgical options.
*Filler injectables provide immediate results but do take up to 4 weeks to fully settle before can see the full results.
